Bakersfield : Pedestrian hit, killed by truck
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A pedestrian was killed Friday morning by a vehicle in southwest Bakersfield, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
Officers were called to the 5000 block of Stockdale Hwy and upon arrival located an adult male in the roadway suffering from major injuries. Bakersfield Fire Department and Hall Ambulance personnel arrived at the scene and declared the male deceased.
Preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was walking in the eastbound lanes of Stockdale Hwy outside of a crosswalk when an adult male driving a full-sized pickup truck in the eastbound lanes struck him. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.
Officials say the driver was under the influence of alcohol; it has not been determined at this time whether the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
This is just one of three pedestrian-related crashes to happen in the area.
